Special Clinics and Services

MAMMOGRAMS
These are organised for you routinely through central database at the Primary Care Trust. The national mammography scheme is currently available for every woman above 50, on a 3 yearly interval, up to the age of 65.

TRAVELLER’S VACCINES CLINIC
The Nurse offers a full range of immunisations. Please make an appointment with the Practice Nurse six weeks before travel. You might need a course of vaccinations. Remember that you might need to finish your course after you come back for longer protection. The NHS does not cover many of those vaccines.

FLU VACCINES CLINICS
The Influenza vaccine is offered in the autumn for specific groups i.e., people with chronic conditions such as asthma and diabetes, the elderly (over 65) and people with reduced immunity. Ask the practice secretary if in doubt.

MINOR AND DERMATOLOGICAL SURGERY
Minor operations can be done at our surgery in a special appointment. Please see a doctor in the normal way for an assessment of the problem. Most of the operations are done under local anaesthesia. Remember most operations will leave scar tissues behind.

DIABETES AND OTHER CHRONIC CONDITIONS
We offer annual checks for people with Diabetes, Heart diseases, Thyroid, and Asthma. Please mention your condition to reception when you book. You may be asked to see the nurse before seeing the doctor.

CHILDHOOD IMMUNISATIONS
These are done every Wednesday morning between 10:00am and 11:00am. Your child will normally be called for appointments for routine vaccinations by the Local Primary Care Trust Database system. If you think your child has missed any injection, do let us know. It is important that all children are fully immunised.

ANTENATAL CLINIC / POST NATAL CHECKS
Our Doctors are always prepared and qualified to perform full antenatal care within normal surgery hours. Post-natal checks (6-10 weeks after giving birth) please book a double appointment for you and your baby’s check up.

FAMILY PLANNING (F.P.)
You could see either the Doctor or the Nurse during normal surgery hours.

We offer a comprehensive service including the implant “Implanon” and IUDs (coils). Please discuss the options with the nurse or doctor before booking for fitting

EMERGENCY CONTRACEPTION
The ‘morning after’ pill is effective for up to 3 days after you have been at risk while the IUD “coil” is effective up to 5 days. Seek help urgently from the nearest F.P. clinic, any local GP practice, or us. The morning after pill is available over the counter at any chemist.

CERVICAL SCREENING (SMEAR TESTS)
We currently use the liquid based cytology (LBC) this is available every three years to all women routinely according to the following:

25 years First invitation

25-49 years 3 yearly

50-64 years 5 yearly

Over 65 for those who have not been screen since the age of 50 or if they had recent abnormal test We may advise this test to be done earlier depending on results.
